My story

Hi!  I’m Marlo. I’ve spent more than 20 years inspiring, motivating, and empowering people to excel in their careers and businesses. I like to consider myself a master connector and career builder who lays the foundation and empowers my clients to build their perfect career path and grow their executive leadership capabilities while helping teams be the most effective and productive. My own career journey started in TV news, where I was a General Assignment and Consumer Investigative Reporter in five states. After I was fired - yes fired! - I didn't know what I wanted to do. So, I secured a new job in TV news knowing I'd be getting back into the business to get out. While working full time as a Consumer Investigative Reporter in Oklahoma City, I went to night law school because I always had an interest in law. But it took just one summer as a law firm clerk for me to realize that the law wasn't my final destination. After finishing school, I took off for Los Angeles to be a screenwriter. I thought for sure Law & Order needed me!  Well, the show didn't need me and I spent the next six years at NBC performing reality show due diligence, including reviewing casts’ background checks, psychological exams and medical exams on some of the biggest reality shows

Marlo Lyons, Inspiring & Empowering Executive Strategist

such as The Apprentice, The Biggest Loser, The Real Housewives of NJ and Top Chef. Oh yes, the stories I could tell you! After six more years as a VP at Viacom, leading the company's Production Risk Team and managing all legal and publicity risk through diligence plus managing immigration, foreign travel compliance, and child labor on such shows Teen Mom, Catfish, Real World, Challenges, and Love & Hip Hop, I needed a change. I loved writing, leading a team, coaching, and mentoring, but again, I had no idea what I wanted to do. That’s when I employed what I now call my proven Career Transition Strategies®, which helped me stop the career confusion in my head and the pros and cons lists of each career. I confidently determined I wanted to be an Executive, Career, and Team Coach and at first, I wanted to do it independently as well as inside a company to keep my pulse on how the C-Suite thinks about growing business and how hiring managers evaluate job candidates for prospective employment. I accepted a role as a Director, Human Resources Business Partner at Roku (for more money than I was making as an attorney)! I coached five C-Suite leaders including the heads of both businesses, Advertising and Whole Home (TVs, Players etc.), the CMO, CFO, and General Counsel. There I learned the ins and outs of HR, including how leaders align skill sets with company goals and how recruiters work. I also learned how organizations scale, what keeps an employee relevant and top of mind, and how organizations make people decisions for promotions and succession, or even separation. From there I moved to Intuitive where I continued to succeed in a similar role coaching executives and teams to ultimate productivity and success. Combining 20+ years of business, management, and leadership expertise with my inside HR knowledge gives me the 100,000 foot view into peoples’ careers and helps me partner with each client to find the right strategic pathway forward, whether that path means obtaining a new job at the right company, transitioning to a new career, recovering from a termination, re-entering the workforce after a long absence or moving into entrepreneurship. It has also provided me with an opportunity to help leaders thrive and help teams rebuild trust within a team or cross-functionally to relieve swirl, stress and help each team optimize its potential. Every path is unique and my coaching will help you achieve your desired outcome.
